Injectors/Fuel Filter

Hi guys.

I recently bought a 2000 van STD. 215k.
I love the sound it makes, believe it or not. And it makes me feel like I have a new friend with power.

It came with a full tank of fuel, and was owned by a bus company.
I ran the fuel low, put some anti algae additive in and ran it till it had about a gallon of fuel left.

I filled the tank with new fuel and added a fuel additive called QMI.

It could be my imagination, but it sounds as if it may be running a little loud and kind of rough.

In reading some of the posts here, I just wonder if the dealer I bot it from may have dropped a can of 2 cycle oil in the tank which would have made it sound quieter.

I ran it low thinking on changing the fuel filter. Is it possible I clogged any of the injectors.

Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

I don't necessarliy think it could 'clog' injectors, but any foreign material that makes it past your fuel filter could damage them. Drain your fuel bowl(I think on the vans, there's a cable to do this) when you change your fuel filter & while it's empty with the fuel filter out, check the condition on the bottom of the fuel bowl. Make sure there's no sludge or rust. Try to get your hands on a scan tool with diesel diag capabilities & check for codes & run a buzz & contrib test. Also: it could just be the typical 7.3 injector 'cackle'. Some additives I've read can make injector cackle louder, but I'm not 100% sure.

You don't need to run the fuel low to change a FF, it can be done with a full tank of fuel. As long as a quality filter was used I wouldn't worry about it, you could just be paranoid with your new toy. If it seems to be lacking power have a buzz test done to be sure all the injectors are in fact working.
