early 99 manifold upgrade questions
i have an early 99 small turbo and intake did anyone swap theres 4 the later 7.3l set up and did u notice a big difference? and what can i do to push boost from 20psi to around 30 i have a k&n intake, muffler delete, and an edge evolution controller any help would be much appreciated.

not sure on the swap ...
but my early 99 has no problem running 28-29lbs boost with the early 99 turbo and intake.. might wanna check for leaks in the system, start by check the inter-cooler boots and up pipes for leaks ... id get rid of the edge and get some good tuning from tony wildman too.. but thats just my .02 Last edited by Cj Ford; 02-19-2009 at 10:52 PM. |

git rid of the k&n unless you want to dust your engine due to poor filtration

Get a better tuner..and I wouldnt push the e99 turbo to far my trucks down right now the seals went outta the turbo

i spent alot of time last night lookin through all the forums and i think i am switchin my tuner but i like the k&n and i'm not woried about the turbo. I've checked for leaks and i havent found any. does anyone know about stackin chips i dont know much about that kinda new 2 this

The K&N is crap... nuff said about that.
If you want to make more power, the Edge just isn't gonna cut it. No idea if you can stack or not, I didn't screw around with the off-the-shelf stuff at all. Get a DP Tuner or TW chip and you'll be way better off. FWIW, my early 99 without the DP Tuner would easily make 25 lbs boost. Now I can hit 30+, stock turbo and sticks. Anything over 25lbs is past the point of efficiency of the turbo though, so all you are doing is blowing superheated air into the motor and raising your EGT's. Oh, and to do the turbo swap you need the turbo, pedistal, up-pipes, collector (baby's butt), spyder pipe, plenums for the heads, and spyder to plenum boots. |
