Question Injector Pump.......on 7.3

I have a chance to buy a 2000 7.3 PSD truck the guy is telling me he thinks the IP is bad. It will start and run then shut right off. OK how hard is it to replace it and how much is the part. I have never worked on the PSD but had a IDI and have done many engine rebuilts gas that is. SO im mechanically incline. Just need you alls input....

You dont have an injector pump on a 7.3 psd. Just a fuel pump. Need to hook it to a scanner and see whats going on

Yea I assuem ...........but should it keep me from buying this truck??? Seeings how he had been driving it with not prior problems? In other words should I be afraid to buy it and think it could be something really major. He said he would keep it and fix it and then sell it , or I could make him an offer to buy it the way it is......2000 7.3 CC 4x4 172k mi clean truck what would it be worth to offer him and not really offend him.

Things to check, injectors are pressurized with engine oil, and actuated by an electric
signal. If it starts and runs well, some things to check....

- oil level
- open the fuel valve and drain the fuel from the filter, then turn the key
on and you should see the fuel dump on the ground under the engine. If
there is just a trickle, then may be fuel pump
- how easy does it start?
- how long does it run before dieing, how long do you have to wait
before it will restart (Could just be the CPS (cam position sensor))
- how much blowby? (pull off oil fill when it is running)
- any smoke? What color from exhaust
