Rearend ratios and other questions

Is there anywhere that has a list of what rearends were available in the 7.3Ls? I'm assuming that 3.73 is pretty common, but I was also wondering how you can tell one way or another. I'm a GM convert and I'm used to decoding RPOs to tell me what options were on a particular vehicle. Does Ford have a similar system so that I could look up all the options on a truck from the VIN or some other ID number on the truck?

not absolutley sure but i believe 3.55's and 4.10's for towing. i know ford has run these gears in a lot of the truck's they built in the 80's and 90's. i haven't seen alot of 3.73's in fullsize ford trucks. if you have the axle tag it'll tell you what gears you have usually has some letters and then the gear ration wit more letters if it has a L/S. another good way to check is pull the diff cover and count the ring/pinion teeth. hope this helps......

Actually, I think the 3.73's were the most common. Mine has it and everyone I know back home with a 99-03 PSD has 'em. IIRC the other gears were options....like the 3.73LSD was an option. Just my $0.02.

my front diff is the 3.73 but i am not quite sure what i have in the rear. probly the same the tags have worn off the back and mine is a 99.

All SRW trucks have a Sterling 10.25 and all to my knowledge came with 3.73's (99+ superduties).

All DRW trucks have Dana 80's and most came with 4.10's. (TowBoss not included)

I have seen people say their dually has 3.73's, and others say their SRW F350 came with 4.10's...
