thermostat housing seal
anybody know if the thermostat housing is supposed to have a gasket or seal on it?
The new thermostat i got for my truck has a seal that comes with it,is this the only seal there is for it?When i took the thermostat off tonight i noticed there was not a gasket on the thermostat housing......thanks for any help

Yes there is a O ring for the thermostat housing but I wouldn't reuse the old housing. They usually won't seal the second time. They are made out of cheap stamped metal and a new one is $18 from Powerstrokeshop.com. If you are reusing the stock I would add some RTV to help it seal!! I also don't use the O ring that comes with the Water Pump, I found the one from Ford is a bit thicker and seals better.
