Engine dies when I turn on new HID's

weird thing - got some Apexcone / DDM HID's the other day - got them all installed - now when I turn them on, the engine dies. Would a relay fix this? Also, how hot do the balasts typically run - hot to the touch?

you may have the ballasts too close to a sensor or something that is triggering it to die... not sure on the temp of the ballasts though....

Had the same problem with my 01, that and when i hit the horn it would momentarily studder. Problem with mine was the old style "ribbon" cable that came with my F5. Jody and Diane sent out new "round" cables to all their customers and it cured my problem. Hope this helps!

Jody confirmed that the F5 had the upgraded wiring - so I was stumped. I was reading about the radio frequency of the balasts and that prompted me to check if the balasts were making contact with metal on my truck. Sure enough, they were...I isolated them, zip-tied them and wa-la - no more problem. Thanks for the help

holy cow...my 01 does this, hit the horn at speed and she stutters. hit the horn at idle and the truck will just flat out die.
