oooh, i had the same problem a while back on a much older truck of mine, i just can't remeber what i did to fix it, maybe some old corroded wires, it might just be the ignition switch itself

Try getting a new key cut and see if you can still pull it out. If so, the tumblers are worn out and you should replace the ignition cylinder.

don't mean to hijack, but that has been done to my truck, so now the doors and ign are diffrent, I need 2 keys... can I get a new ign made to fit the door key I have, or can I get a matched set of ign and both doors? where? Again, sorry to hijack, but it's closely related topic... maybe someone can help us both out with a link or phone #, or if it's dealer only kinda thing...

Somehow all me vehicles have been that way and I like it too. Less worry when warming up because I can lock it. My 97 I could do the same thing but it would also, if I turned the ignition far enough back to turn everything off, but not in the lock position you could start it without the key.

Mine does the same thing I started using the new original key and it solved the problem. if you can get a new key cut from the key # it may work.

If you go to the dealer I think they can match the ignition lock cyliner to the door locks.
