Please help. general question
hey guys,
i just took my wife out in the new 01 f250 7.3l i just bought. it has 153k miles on it. this is my first 7.3l and i was wondering. where do yalls trucks usually shift at mine is loud as hell on the inside and shifts around 2k rpms. also i was wondering if anyone else 7.3l shifts not rough but you can tell from 1 to 2 and sometimes 2 to 3. its not a jerk but it lets you know its shifting. i was just curious. Thanks guys |

Mines got 131,000 and the higher shift points surprised me too after coming from a gas chevy. Sometimes it is slower to upshift when cold as well, like maybe more than 2000 RPMs unless you let off on the throttle. I think it wants to hold the lower gear as long as the driver demands acceleration but I find that I get good acceleration after the upshift so I try and force the upshift. The worst feeling shift is the upshift at 40 mph it seems to wait forever when you are babying it but if you are being aggressive it shifts nice and early.
Since putting on the DIY intake I can really hear and feel the firm shifts of my stock trans and engine. |
