99 f 550 hpop leak

it appears to be leaking from the plug that they say you should not remove.found that plug to be loose.my concern is that the oring behind this plug is bad.it is the plug that is at the end of the hpop housing where the ipr screws in.the bulletins i have read only called for three orings that were able to be serviced the two oil line fittings and the plug on the rear of the pump.

The only advice I have is "dont" undo the plug. Dad undid his when it leaked without knowing that your not supposed to and ended up having to replace the whole HPOP over it!

Hate to sound ignorant, but I'm used to it.

What is an "HPOP", and where is it located? My own F550 leaks oil, and I am having trouble figuring where/why...

HPOP = High Pressure Oil Pump.

I just replaced my HPOP because of a leak on that plug a couple weeks ago. Thread is here:

help 99 7.3 stalling while driving

I started to pull the plug, but it was cold as hell that day (like 10-20) and I didn't have a garage to work in, so I took the quick route and just replaced the HPOP. You have to torch it to get that plug out, and few places sell the full oring kit.

Replacement O-rings for Diesel Engines

This is one of the few places that sells a full 7-piece HPOP oring kit, and they have some instructions for plug removal.

Good luck!

HPOP explained

oldtimer550, the high pressure oil pump (HPOP) is part of the hydraulic electronic unit injection (HEUI), these injectors are electronically controlled and hydraulically actuated. Hince why the 7.3 wont start if its low on oil. Hope that gets you on track!
