ZF6 Drag Racing?

Went to the Carolina Diesel Nationals last Saturday, and I don't think I seen a single straight drive run the track.

I know that technically, an automatic will out run a manual every time, when dealing with these trucks, considering shift time and turbo spoil and such. My question is this.

If you own a ZF6 and have ever drag raced, rather it be on a track, or just wanted to out run your friends, what do you typically do?

What gear do you launch in? Around about what RPM do you launch said gear from? Are you popping the clutch?

Not that I intend to race my truck, just following the G.I. Joe code. The more you know.

I will have to talk to a buddy I work with, he seemed to be pretty good at speed shifting his zf6. I have been driving standards all my life, but this one is gonna take me awhile I believe.

You would have to double clutch it either way to speed shift, but it's a truck transmission, it won't be fast then compared to a sports car, but if drag racing in a zf6 is what you want then shift at very high rpm's and start in 2nd gear

It depends on gearing and tire size. I can start in second but it lugs bad. I have 35" and 3.73 gears. I can get a quick start when I start in first and launch at 2300-2400 and slip the clutch pretty good.

I've only driven standards with 4.10's, first gear just don't have enough room, I start in second unless I'm loaded HEAVY, on a track tho it will get you a jump, but your gonna have to shift at about 20 feet

I drive my Mustang instead.

I don't think I've ever considered running this truck on a track or even against anything from a drag perspective. Not that I wouldn't, I just don't think it would do all that well.
