a/c in any vent setting

i did some searching and can't find anything about this but i recall reading something about it years ago. i'd like to be able to turn the a/c on to blow through the floor vents, not just the dash vents blowing in my face. anyone done this? is it just a matter of adding a switch and wire to the compressor clutch?

Well, I can guarantee you it's possible because mine does it. But it operated that way since I bought it. Basically my AC seems to be on in any position other than the face vent setting, one click to the left of "off". AC, Max AC, Face/Floor, Def/Floor, and Defrost all blow AC cold air for me.

I actually thought that this was normal as it's my first PSD.

Your ac clutch might be engaged all the time. With the vent system in the off position, does your ac pump still turn? It should disengage.

That's because it is normal (it's listed in your owners manual). The AC is on in every position other than vent, feet, and off.

OK, good. I just checked it and that is what is happening.

So OP, did I misunderstand the question or is yours malfunctioning? Are you looking to make it blow AC through JUST the floor?

mine seems to work like every other ford i've had before

in defog mode, i get light a/c
in defog/floor, i get light a/c
in floor only, no a/c
in a/c, strong a/c
in max a/c, strong a/c that recirculates

i'd like to be able to get a/c to blow through the floor vents and dash vents or just the floor vents. i'm basically wondering if putting the vent system into a/c mode just turns the fan clutch on or is there more to it?

Steve, you already do get ac from the dash and floor vent combo. From the owner's manual:

The air conditioning compressor will operate in all modes except
(Panel) and (Floor). However, the air conditioning will only function
if the outside temperature is about 10°C (50°F) or higher

And:

(Panel and floor) -Distributes outside air through the instrument
panel registers and the floor ducts. Heating and air conditioning
capabilities are provided in this mode. For added customer comfort,
when the temperature control knob is anywhere in between the full
hot and full cold positions, the air distributed through the floor ducts
will be slightly warmer than the air sent to the instrument panel
registers.
