From 6.0 to 7.3 possibly...

First off I love 6.0s but had to sell to pay cut from job change.

Gonna look at a 2001 7.3 6spd with 6in lift, 35s and a dual south bend clutch. No programmer or chip.

What do I look for? I don't have experience with 7.3s at all really.

It's got 170k, looks like a bare bones 4dr long bed, it's got those weird leather seats you see on company/commercial trucks but guy is a firefighter and asking a fair price.

Check for blowby, listen to how it runs, not much to monitor or look for in a 7.3 honestly. If she runs good, spools up good and seems to have decent power you're golden.

Flip the oil fill cap over, if it blows off walk, if vibrates your fine, check turbo impeller wheel for pitting and shaft play, look for leaks, check fluids, and start it cold (even though glow plugs and a relay are kinda cheap and easy)

glow plugs are cheap and easy, injectors are about $1500 and not too difficult to do

Also since its a ZF6 check the gears with engine off and feel if they're sloppy in the shifter. Especially 2nd and 3rd. A reman ZF is just as bad as a 4r100 (auto trans).

Why does he have a dual disc southbend clutch? Those are rated for 650~rwhp. That's going to be a rough ride if he's really got a DDC in there...
