So, ok.....I don't actually have a diesel yet. I am looking to buy my first - a F250 '02 with 85K..(wants 18K)...test drove it for the first time. This is my first diesel ever. I currently have a 06 tundra. Big difference. But, a few questions to the crowds. This is a stock 02 with the 7.3L engine....checked under the hood...no oil strewn, does have a K&N Filter, but clean intake tube. Did not see the turbo blades. Let it warm up a bit, acceleration was slow....it was 24 degrees. Braking seemed soft as did the shifts. The shifts improved with warming up and driving. I am going to take to a diesel mech and have it put on the rack and gone over....anything specific I need him to look at? Also, would an extended warranty make since at this stage?
I really think most of the differences I felt were the differences between a Toyota and a 3/4 ton Ford. But, would like any input.

Ask him if has replaced the ball joints yet. Mine went out at about 100K miles and that was around $800.
