GEM issues. (Voltage draw)

Hi everyone,

I have a 2000 Lariat 7.3 4x4 and in the last month I have developed a voltage draw.

I replaced one battery and the other is about a year old. They both show about 12.75 volts.

After pulling all the relays and fuses the #15 fuse turns off the test light and its the famous GEM module fuse.

Now Ive unplugged the cluster, the ABS, the windows, PCM, brake switch, and finally unplugging the GEM shuts the light off. Ive waited 40+ minutes and Ive measured a 1.8a draw afterward.

I dont use my truck often, (about once a week) and with the monster Denso starter I installed it needs all the amps I can give it.

Do you guys think its the GEM or is there something else you can suggest to me?

Cool Draw

I have been mess'n with this for a few years off and on. I replaced the GEM with no response. In some time frames it will kick off my 2amp charger. I have found a tech at a Ford dealer that will look at it when he get's a chance. The theft lite and nostart issues lead me to the PATS. This mod has a mind of it's own when working correctly.

This seems to be a popular problem with these trucks. I bought the truck in Feb. and it has sat as long as 2 weeks without issue. But, I noticed it after I tried an online fix for my overhead console and that died immediately after pulling out of the driveway. Ive since unplugged it completely and the battery issue is still happening.

I am going to have the gem tested again but I had no change after I replaced it. A high output starter uses less amperage but a psd with 11.2 volts will be lucky to start even with the block heater plugged in.

Ramsmoker- where'd you get your GEM? Dealership or elsewhere? I'm having key fod and windshield wiper problems wondering if GEM is problem. Haven't got into it yet, just curious.

I was busy at the time and put new batteries and the GEM in at the Ford dealer. Another issue is sometimes hot or cold it's a no start. Turn the key off and back on and she starts right up. PATS? The theft light flash's all the time, door locks work strange. Lights come on at will. Puts charger into safety mode from over draw

I have gone to the library and used there electronic system. I think you can get up to 8 print outs per session as a card holder.
