chipped or not?

purchased a 2001 excursion 7.3l turbo diesel and was told it was 100% stock.

the trans shifts HARD, and it rolls coal pretty good (blowing smoke under decent throttle) is that indicative that its probably chipped? how can I tell/check for certain?

Never seen a stock one smoke, and is it shifting hard like it's going out, or a firm shift like a race setting? If the latter then you should send the PCM off for a re flash of stock settings

The only way it will smoke stock is if there is a major problem.
Is it painfully slow to drive? If not, it's chipped

PIS 175/80's, Van Turbo with EBPV, BD Billet Wheel
Lots of money spent at RiffRaff
Holley fuel pump, in tank mods, crappy riding leveling kit, DP-F6, 5 Gauges+Edge CS in dash, CB radio in Dash, over 100 goofy little mods
Still pretty slow, just less slow now.

The dealer can reflash your PCM to stock settings IIRC.

What he said. But if there's no visible chip, its probably got a tune downloaded to it. If it smokes that bad, and seems pretty fast, I would not tow with it.
