Cold Weather Starting

I have been very surprised with my truck as of late. Been 10 to 20 degrees below zero with a windchill of 40 below. But she hasn't let me down yet. Starts every morning after sitting outside. One question I have though is this.....when i first start it it runs for a second or two then the idle goes way up and it dies. Then I turn they key off and on again too cycle the glow plugs again and it fires off and runs fine. Is that normal?
