What is this sensor?

2002 F350 7.3l Found this sensor hanging out behind my cold air intake box. Not sure what it is but I am thinking it is a temperature probe.

If so, does the computer use this for fuel/air ratios or is this just for outside air temp readout for the cab display?

That is the intake air temperature sensor.

It's pretty much useless. I relocated mine to the front bumper and it now acts as my outside temperature on the edge insight.
It's surprisingly accurate.

I read awhile back it communicates with the PCM and the glow plugs.. Can't remember the specifics but serving along those lines.

Exactly. When you're starting the truck anyways, aka using glow plugs, the air intake sensor can be anywhere and it makes no difference. Win win

That is pretty genius, hopefully the torque app monitors that sensor? if it does i will definitely move mine to monitor outside air temp when i get it. Smart thinking
