TAPE to AUX conversion w/ receptacle

has anyone opened a factory broken turd 6 disc radio and re-routed the tape to a female receptacle for aux in? i am wanting to cut the tape reader head wires (3) and hard wire them to a female plug which could be conveniently located in the "trash bag holder" and then i can use the common male/male plug to listen to my phone/mp3 player/etc. i plan on sticking the metal tape deck down so the radio thinks there is a tape installed at all times yet still being able to keep the take flapper door shut. i am also thinking of capping the hot wire to the tape deck motor so that it doesnt run while in "tape" mode. anyone see any problems?????

I had a PIE adapter that hooked in where the CD changer hooked on my factory radio.
I still have it... Make me an offer.

Correct. I used it like that first with an XM radio and later my phone. I guess I used it with a Male 3.5, but if you wanted a cleaner set up, a female 3.5 with a male to male 3.5 patch cable would work.

Here's a pictures of it.

Looks like they go for $55 on ebay... How about $20 plus shipping or you can pick it up if you're down my way (between Woodstock and Acworth)

ok. bryceb is awesome to deal with and i have an update. i figured out that this was the way to go if you dont have steering wheel/rear controls for your radio. the pie adapter has female rcs plugs and you can buy 3.5 or whatever adapters online to mate to the pie adapter. install is as fast as 5 minutes or as long as you want to take flush mounting the receiver headphone plug of your choice.

now the bigger problem: i need a source for info on which ford oem radios for 99-03ish that are capable of steering wheel AND rear controls. once i find this out, i can buy one that doesnt have 6 disc turd player that always are broken and then add an adapter. please post info if you can help. im thinking of looking at lincoln radios since they mostly had steering wheel controls on the navigators. boy id like one of those wood steering wheels also...

they arent showing an in dash single disc! FRICK!
