muffler delete
so i was in my cousins truck over the holidays and he has a stack without a muffler and has basically the same truck that i have. however i have a mbrp exhaust kit thats a 4in downpipe to a 5 in pipe. our sounds are quite a bit different and i liked his more. does the muffler make that much of a difference? i was thinking about ordering a muffler delete kit but wasnt sure if it was worth it or not. thanks
also i was looking and getting a 5 to 6in tip. with an angle cut. any opinions and pics would be appreciated. Last edited by nboeger4; 12-31-2008 at 01:53 PM. |

Mufflers will make quite a bit of difference in the way a truck sounds. I love the sound of a straight pipe, but my trucks an Inline 6...
As far as stacks, I like the mitre cuts. 6" should be plenty big. |

well im not looking for a stack since i already have the mbrp exhaust kit. im just wondering with my kit if it will make a difference without the muffler. cuz the muffler that comes with the mbrp kit is basically a straight through kit already.

Sorry, I read angled tip and assumed stack. Gettign rid of your muffler, even though it is straight through will change the sound. You could get on youtube and search for straight piped 7.3's and see if you like it more than your current setup.

has anyone had a mbrp kit and got the muffler delete kit and actually noticed a difference? and is it worth it?

i took the muffler out of the stock system and noticed a lot better sound and a little performance gain. hope that helps

thanks but i know removing the muffler and cat from the stock set up makes a difference. im just more wondering about removing the muffler from an aftermarket exhaust set up. esp the mbrp kit since thats the kit i would be removing it from.

yes it will make a difference in the sound. the pipe doesn't make the sound you hear, it's the chambers in the muffler. so, remove the muffler and you will get a different sound (it sounds a lot better, trust me)

P.S. if it has a cat (i THINK 01 was the last year they didn't have cats from the factory) then you will want to remove that too
