Fuel Filter

This is an easy one but I just can't remember...

I have an early 99 and want to change the fuel filter but I think the one I put in last time was not a one-piece lid and skirt thingy. All I can seem to find at the autoparts store is a one-piece (of course the actual filter is unattached)

Does this make sense? The skirt thingy I'm referring to seems to be a pre filter of some sort. (yes I know I am lazy for not just unscrewing the old one to check it)

Also I think the OEM Motorcraft is a FD-4596 is this correct?

The one at the parts store will work. It is the one I use all the time.

Then you didn't replace the FF, just the pre filter.
OP, just go to NAPA and buy a WIX filter!!

Some filters come with the lid attached and some don’t. If you use an attached filter then be sure to save your lid from your old filter incase next time you get a filter without the lid. The lid doesn’t come off the together ones so if you don’t save your old lid then you’ll either always have to buy the together ones or you’ll have to buy another lid.
I bought a box of 6 Baldwin fuel filters on eBay for like $65 so I’m covered for a while.
