Ford CPS + PowerStroke = #8 Contrib Fail????

I was doing some research on my #8 injector after finding the P0284(cyl 8 contrib/balance fault) code from a contribution test. Someone had told me the grey Ford CPSs could possibly be a cause for this. HUH? Is this true? If it is, how hard is it to get my hands on an IH CPS? There are no IH dealers in Rhode Island as far as I know.

I've just heard some of the techs say they've seen bad CPSs right out of the box. I can't figure how an injector & the CPS could be connected to the injector failing a contrib test.

What CPS did you get? Grey, Blue, or Black?

Usually, I've found that the cps *can* cause contrib failure, but it's random and that it will fail more than 1 cylinder and usually it's the opposite corresponding cylinder. So, if it's number 8. you would throw a number 3 code also.

Also, this occurs with the grey CMP (what you call a cps).

Sounds like a number 8 injector failure to me.

From what I have seen and heard the grey cps will cause that. The number 8 was the most common one I have heard it cause to fail. But like Dirk said it can cause any of them to fail the test

Does the recall cps actually damage the #8 injector or just fail the test? Are most of you putting in a black cps with c99 part# in your 2000-2003's? Does it matter?
