code scanners
just wondering what you guys use and why. I'm having "problems" with the local parts house guys not being able to read my codes (3 diff "testers", 3 diff test methods, kinda makes me wonder), and anyways, should probably have one around. Thanks.

What he said Auto Enginuity is awesome. I dont know if Hawaiian can get it for you. But if he cant, I know who can

Our trucks aren't OBDII compliant because of their GVWR, this is why the scanners at AZ, Pep Boys etc can't read the codes, you must purchased the PSD bundle pack to read them. If you can find a used Superchips programmer on Ebay for $100 that is for the PSD use it as a code reader, just don't use the tunes, they suck!!
If you want to be able to run diagnostic tests like Ferd can do than the AE is the program you want, but you must have a laptop. If my truck ever gives enough of a problem I will purchase the AE it is good to have. Right now my code reader on my SCT X2 does a fine job. NCH |

the biggest thing about a scanner is to make sure it will work god for what you want to use it for , make sure its CAN capable and will also monitor pids , if it doesnt monitor data then when it comes time to diag a truck, just codes will not help alot of times , auto enginuity is a good one , there are some reasonably priced ones out there now, bottom line is make sure it will do what you need it to do

![]() I don't know what PIDS or CANS are but the AE thingy sounds like the one to have (except that you need a laptop, and THOSE are tools of the DEVIL! jess like FEWLSBALL!!) I'll probably just look for a cheap Superchips chip (allow myself to..introduce...myself) Thanks all. |

AE works but has its setbacks, quirks and con's. I had it and got rid of it for the NGS which does more, faster and easier but you get what you pay for. |

So what one do you guys recommend. Because I'm looking to get one as well. So I can view the parameters and such and perform system tests.

It all depends on your budget. No use in talking about the NGS or the IDS if you are looking to spend $100-200.
The more you pay the better equipment you get. |

What is the NGS and IDS, systems, are they like AE but different company.
