SO....

If you really want that body style, find a wreaked/rolled 250 or 350 super duty, leave the motor/drivetrain/suspention/axles as they are on the SD frame, and just swap the sheet metal body over, then yer just gonna have to make the body mounts and such... leaving the frame/drivetrain in mostly factory relationships... this would be a time consumeing project, and not one you're gonna want to approch if this is your current daily driver, and you really want a project that will take months...

Otherwise, easy way out, as you've said, sell your current truck, find a good used superduty in the cab/bed/x4 combo you want, and be done with it... $15K or less and you'd have a nice ext cab 4x4 PSD with around 150K miles... hook up yer trailer and set the cruise... away you go...

Good luck any way you go...

Thats exactly what i was going to do. Not anymore though. too much time, too much money. (Im in college...)

But the upshot is that my friend told me that if I wanted it he would sell it to me he wants a 6.4. its a '97 with 105000 ext cab long bed 6" lift with 37s its the Fontana edition if that means anything. He said $8,000.

Is that worth it? It seems like it would be but what do ya'll think? His dad bought it new so it has been in that family for almost 12 years now.

sounds like you found your answer but you might be able to talk him down a little.

OR, you could try a cummins swap in your half ton?

If it is solid and it should be with that low of miles original owner that you know and trust i would say snap it up. When i go to sell a vehicle it is always snapped up by a friend or aquanintence because of my reputation of meticulous service and the use of synthetics. I just say the price and they plop down the cash without any hagling. Solid well maintained used vehicles are well worth the investment.

Your idea has merit.I think you already reached the conclusion of "impractical to reengineer". (Probably why Ford is coming out with the diesel version f150 ?)

I spent a month in a country that was full of 4 cyllinder diesel trucks. The economy is great and good for towing smaller loads. When I returned , i looked for something similar here. The Jeep Liberty was one that I considered. Friends warned me against it.

I was going to try and talk him down. Its a very nice solid truck, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to try and get it cheaper!

And I had played with the idea of putting a 4BT in an S10 or Ranger. That way it would be a reliable daly driver and still get a bazzillion MPGs.

It was very well taken care of. Its on its 2nd trans though. (auto) I think they bought it from Jasper? And think it still has some warranty left on it.
