my friend told me he talked to some guy that owns a diesel shop and he told him about this mod you yake the vac line to your wastegate the red line and put a small t fitting in it leave one small side open and this will give you 5-6 more pounds of boost. i did this you can hear the blow off valve more. can you feel 5 pounds of boost and is this safe my friend says he has run this for 3 years and no problems what it this
The 7.3 doesn't have a blowoff valve. Like Raul said, just watch your boost gauge and ypu will be fine. The only thing you might notice is a check engine light which could be caused from over boosting. I've also seen people unplug the hose and extend it about 2 inches which will increase your boost approx. 2-3 psi and not cause an over boost code.
My red line is unplugged from the WG and on one of the IC boot clamps. Even towing a light load I can easily set the CEL for overboost. Anything above 25 psi on a stock turbo and you're losing efficiency anyway. Unplug it and see what you think, if you don't like it you can plug it back in real easy.
There is no blow-off valve. The WASTEGATE still opens but it takes more pressure to open so it stays closed longer and when it opens it lets boost out slower. Mines been unplugged for forever now. I have a squeezey end of a dropper over the nipple of the wastegate with a zip-strip, and the hose over the IC boot. I think it was a sales pitch. And most will tell you it gets you about 2-3psi of boost. Intake and Foil Delete makes it the wastegate louder more than anything. And the engine will defuel if it goes over about 20psi, then it's time for a boost fooler. 27psi is just superheated air (so I've read), 31psi is pushing it for a stock turbo.
i put a t in mine.. i guess its supose to suck more air . i was told if you unplug it will blow a head gasket. my truck is 20 psi pluged in and 27 psi with a t. if you completely unplug do you cap the lines or what
I believe the truck uses boost, controlled by a valve to open the wastegate progressively from as low as 5lbs of map boost.
If you disconnect the wastegate line and leave it open, or put an open T in the line you are just allowing the boost to bleed through the open hose, instead of being bled off by the wastegate.
If you disconnect the line then to reap the benefits plug the line. Then the truck should build more boost and the wastegate spring will still operate when needed.
I think I'd just unplug it and go on personally...also, I saw in your sig where you've got HP/TQ ratings...how did you hit 400/730 without injectors, or did you just take the stock ratings and add the Superjunk's ratings to them?
I unpluged my waste gate and then pluged both the line by putting it on the clamp bolt and capped the titting on the waste gate and have not had any problems!
the t gave me truck 6 more psi. and yes i have a boost gauge. you can feel the 6psi of boost. i was told if you unplug it will blow a head gasket. the t i put in is a real small hole to suck more air. the t trick was told to me by a diesel shop in texas that builds hot rod diesel trucks. they said if you unplug the line it will make hella boost and then blow the heads through the hood
I dynoed my truck today to test this mod and the 5.6k ohm resistor mod
The difference between stock and open wastegate was around 2hp more and the same torque, but it shifts the power and torque curves up by just under 100rpm
so not really any difference, but the 5.6k mod gave 60hp and 93lb/ft extra!
I thought the wastegate mod felt like more power when I was driving around, but I guess it was just noise.
I would like to see some sort of proof of a 7.3 with a stock turbo, stock sticks, running a Supercraps tuner, laying down 400 ponies!! Sorry man, I am not trying to piss in your Cherrios but I have been around these trucks a little to long to swallow something that big.
I agree...I knew I'd stir up a ****storm, but this seems like one of those guys that takes the advertised power from each mod, adds it up and then says wow, I've got 400HP...on stock sticks and turbo. Bull****, it's not possible. If custom tuners can't do it, than Super**** sure isn't gonna do it.
your exactly bigwhite, if supercraps that good, then i need to find someone to trade my tw for their's because when i was running it before, it didn't feel like i had much power, but that must be the key......i'm not trying to be mean or anything, but i just don't know how it could produce 400 hp w/ a stock turbo/injectors
ok i had my truck tuned by a friend of a friend that works at amazon tuning i was not there they gave me a paper and told me thats what my truck made.but the truck is fast as hell , bt this is my firts diesel truck i guess its slow to you guys
I had some great results with Rick at Amazon with my Lightning...But who knows. The Dyno is only a tuning tool anyhow...
