New Gears

I recently put a 6" lift and 37 toyo's on my truck. Now thinking about putting new gears and possibly a locker. The norm seems to be 430 gears with my set which is a 7.3 with auto and 373's. Will the 430 bring it back to the stock performance?

Also does andy one have an opion for which type of locker or posi unit. Would a clutch pack posi work well for normal driving with occasional off road. Really don't want to have the banging with the detroit locker. Or would this be noticable?

Any suggestions would be great.
Mike

IMO 4.56's with only 37s will run too much RPMs on the highway. A lot of people in your position do not even bother with the gears. They're pretty spendy if you're not doing the work yourself, and that $2k+ can get a few performance parts instead.

FWIW, I have 38s and 4.30s.

i would have to disagree with the 4.56

the 4.30 will get you as close to stock... the 4.56 would put your RPM's too high on the highway with onl 37's

as far as a locker.. i would just do a detroit rear and ARB's for the front.. unless money is no problem then go with ARB's both front and rear

I'd agree with 4.30s for 37s.

4.56s only if you plan on 38-40" tires soon.

I run 4.56s with my 38s and have run 40s with them as well.

Personally I hated 3.73s and 38" tires.

Thanks for all of the info. I hear the detroit lockers make alot of Noise. Any one run one of these. I like the Air locker but they are pretty pricey.

they dont make a whole lot of noise... you could always just go with a tru trac... but if you want a full locker i would get the detroit...

but for a few hundred more you can just get a ARB....

For what its worth, I have been looking at Auburn Ected lately. Its a limited slip and when 12v is sent to it, it locks fully like a spool. No compressors, siloniod or air line, just one wire and a swtich on the dash. There is also alot of HoPo street cars that run Auburn LS's.
