????? I have a lil question for ya?

Ok guys, I haven't been on here in a while I know shame on me. I was away filming a quad movie, then I got hurt was in a wheel chair for a week, then did a tour of lower florida with the family.

Anyway, Like I said in the first sentence I have been away for a while but what do you guys think, I was looking at a 6.4l that was wrecked and thinking. Would it be worth it to through a 6.4 in my 03 and replace the 7.3 or spend that money in the proven tach behind the 7.3? I have a 6.4 at work 450 and I love the way this thing pulls out of the gate and keeps going, My 7.3 is almost payed off this is why I dont wanna just buy a new truck, Plus I would be able to utilize the 03 to make the 6.4 as powerful as possible and have no emissions

Have you looked closely @ how a 6.4l is configured in the new PSDs? I'll probably be corrected, but it looks like it won't be an easy(or practical) swap if it's possible. The cooler(s) swap alone looks like a project & a half. Then you'll have to go through the computer swap, wiring swap, & fit the DPF exhaust system(unless you decide a DPF delete or stacks). Honestly: you can have a lot more fun with your 7.3l than you could with a 6.4. The problems you'd have with a 7.3 are easily tracable, & cheaper(in most cases) to repair. All PSDs, whether a 7.3, 6.0, or 6.4 have their fair share of problems...but in my opinion, the 6.4s are too new & besides the problems they're having here-&-there, I'm sure there are more 'unknowns' that're on the way.

well the engine is taller the motor bay sits lower, the front coolers are no problem just swap the new front clip with the support in it(bolt on)
the wiring is the part that scares me. I know there is alot of smart diesel guys on here that is why I asked. I am deffinetly doing the 08 swap soon but the motor is in my head.......................................smokin tiresbolt:

Go for the 7.3 buildup. Take the money you would save on doing the 6.4 swap and put that into a built trans, among other things.

I think that putting the 6.4 in the 2003 chassis would be a complete nightmare. From the electrical nightmare to just the fact that so many of the repairs on the 6.4 are cab-off i think that it would not be advisable.

7.3's aren't slow. Mine is completley stock, if you can get a good boosted launch without spinning the tires she hauls a**. Probably not something you want to drag race against a 6.4, but it beats the cheap ricers around my hood.

Theres barely any room to work under the hood of a 6.4. Girlfriends father has one, and that thing is packed in there. I think the newer gen body style is bigger than our style? Sounds like too much of a PITA to me, unless of course you want to do this yourself, then you will have a payed for truck that sits for months at a time while you work out every little detail/problem that comes up. Just make your 7.3 a fun dd/tow vehicle. No need to make it a drag/pullin truck.

For the cost of the 6.4 swap, you would have one very nice 7.3L.
