Dually with 22.5's...

I've got my eye on a couple of trucks... one is an F250 and the other is an F350 DRW. the F350 has a lift and 22.5 rims. I was talking to the owners of each and the F250 owner said he got about 18-19 mpg around the city... while the dually owner said he got about 12-13.

{edit: vehicle info:
-2005 F250 CC 4x4... 6.0 posted about previously
-2002 F350 CC 4x4... 7.3
end edit}

I love the way that dually looks with the 22.5's... but, 12-13mpg is alittle on the low side. i'm wondering if a programmer/chip would bring that up to 18mpg or so. is there that much of a difference in mpg's between the two trucks or is it b/c of the 22.5's??

i'll be towing a toy hauler in the future... until then, i'll be towing a Rhino(yamaha).

any help would be appreciated.

PS: this site is great...

The DRW's won't help with MPG. Also the 350 may have taller gears (won't help with MPG either)

But yes, a chip would help your mileage a bit

18-19 in the city???? That would be sweet.

My F350 (See sig) gets 12-14mpg in town and 18-19 on the highway unloaded.

My guess the gears and tires make the mileage less on the dually... mine gets about 13 to 14 MPG, up about 2 MPG with the DP-tuner on 80 econo most of the time... if I'd keep my foot out of it, I'd get better MPG, I wouldn't expect ever getting up to 18 though...

Get the dually, take out the 4.10s, sell them and put in 3.73s if it'll work. I have 3.73s in my truck and I haul 2 skid steers on a gooseneck and don't have any trouble getting up to speed.
