ok after looking at a few this weekend, I'm set on a supercab shortbed, just seemes it'll work better for me, also after driving a manual truck that big, i think its better to get a auto. Still up in the air bout a 4wd vs 2wd.

if your gonna go auto save a lil cash and get a built trans right off the bat... the stock trans on the 99-03 SD are not that great and it is its weakest link....

2wd will give you a lil better MPG than the 4wd... but i would prefer 4wd

I agree with others saying to get the crew cab its so worth it. I wish I had it on my current truck, my next one will definitely be a crew cab. I would get 4x4 but that's up to you, its nice to have. I think the manual will be good when you do get that bigger trailer but for right now the auto will do just fine (plus its nice to relax and drive, especially in heavy traffic). As far as bed length I only get 8 foot beds (that's because I use it work work and haul a lot of stuff usually), but if this is strictly a tow vehicle then the 6 ft bed will do just fine plus the truck will turn slightly sharper (always a plus). I would suggest crew cab short bed 4x4 and you'll have one nice truck.

thats my main reason getting the extended cab shortbed, in Atlanta, its hard getting around in anything bigger than a Honda. I figure i'll change the fluid/filter in the auto when i get it and get a trans cooler from work (work at Summit Racing Equipment) and then talk to the guy that tunes my mustangs and maybe get a dyno tune that will help with the trans.
