Mirror turn signal lights when brakes are applied

I wired my turn signal mirrors up yesterday and today I noticed they light up when I touch the brakes. I tied into the wires at the blinker switch in the column, tested them and they flashed left and right respectively

Which wires should I have used in a 2000 XLT?

I Don't know what the correct wires are. Pull out a test light and probe until you find the one that's right.
I'd probably hook it to my running lights and forget about the turn signals, but that's just me.

That's what I did, but I think the ones I tapped into are for the rear blinkers which is why they light up when I hit the brakes... not sure yet. Was poking around in there all evening but no luck yet. All the write ups I've found are for later years and the wire colors don't match. There's a lot of wires, I was just hoping someone with a 2000 had done this and knew the wire color/location.

Tag brown behind your fusebox under the dash. Parking light positive trigger.
