6 speed, what gear do you start off in?
There are L, 1, 2, 3, 4, OD
obviously we don't start off in OD... but which gear do you guys start off in, unloaded, driving in flat? I can go off comfortably in 1st or 2nd, but im not sure if starting it in 2 (which is actually 3rd?) would have any ill effects? i engage the clutch completely at/around idle... |

2nd won't hurt it a bit. L is actually granny low and is only needed to get a large load to moving.

I agree. I take off in 2nd all the time in mine.

Gears
I use 1 unless I have a trailer hooked on, then I use L. I have a SRW F350 with 3.73's though. I used to have a 96 F250 with 4.10 and a 5 spd. It was marked 1, 2, 3, 4, OD. I used 2 all the time unless trailer hooked on, then 1.

I use first most of the time unless I stop on an uphill then I will drop it into L. The 4.88 gears help a lot, but the loaded service body is kinda heavy.

I have the old 5-speed and have startes in 2nd ever since I owned it. I used to have a '90 Super Duty w/ 5.13's that liked 3rd.
