Question Exhaust question....

Hi All,

Just read on here of a guy cutting his factory muffler off and using the remaining factory pipe to have it come out in front of rear tire.....He wanted to lower his EGTs, but never said if it did...

Would this lower EGTs in your guys opinion....I would think alittle considering the muffler is gone.......If so I may do that this Friday while in the garage.....Moneys are tight for awhile so a exhaust would be near future.....

Thanks for the help & Info.

I think it would probably help a bit.
It's practically free so you may as well try it and let us know how it works out

Still pretty slow, just less slow now.

ya the stock muffler sucks. its the same muffler as the 1/2 ton gas pickups.

it might lower egts 50-75 degrees but thats the most i would think.

I replaced my stock muffler with the Walker BTM and noticed a HUGE improvement in performance. Really woke it up especially towing the camper. IMHO, the 7.3 sounds like crap straight piped. I just bought a 99 with a straight piped 5" system and I HATE it. Can't wait for it to warm up so I can fit a muffler to it.

I deleted my muffler, went up to 4" and dumped it in front of the tire. I haven't noticed a drop in EGT's. but that's mostly around town driving. Driving on the highway with a heavy load is where you will probably see a difference from having the restrictive muffler. I believe you will really enjoy the results with deleting the muffler. + just a side note. Napa had 3.5" couplings and 45* angle bends. It was the only place really that had exhaust parts ready on the shelf where I live. Better than waiting a week for online parts.
