What oil to use

I am new member. Thanks for any help you all may give me. I have 99.5 power stroke. F250. 205k. 6 speed. New gp/gpr. New batteries. Still has some trouble starting in cold. I am due for oil change. Should I stick with 15w-40. Or go to 5w-40. Or possibly 15w-40 blend.

I run 15w40 during the summer months.

10w30 DIESEL oil in the winter. Not regular old 10w30 oil for a gas engine, must be diesel rated.

I don't know how cold it is for you but we average -20*C in winter here. My Ford manual says 10w30 for when the average temp is less than -5*C. Switching to lighter oil makes a profound difference

Or you could go synthetic and run 0w40 year round. But don't switch back and forth between synthetic and dyno. Pick one and stick with it.

Who said anything about 5w50?

For dyno oil:

15w40 -- DIESEL oil only, If temperatures average above -5*C
10w30 -- DIESEL oil only, If temperatures average below -5*C

For synthetic.

0w40 -- DIESEL rated, year round

CJ-4,CI-4,CH-4 are the current categories of acceptable diesel oils

Most guys? I would say some guys. I think the majority goes to 5w40.

The point is any CH-4 or newer oil will be fine, regardless of weight, with CJ-4 being the most common.

Er yeah. Been working with too many gas engines and keep seeing Mobil 0w.

5w 40 is generally what you'll find in diesel rated

Weight greatly affects the cold start though
