Just got a truck. Have a few questions.

I just bought a 2002 F250 XLT 4x4 with the 7.3 powerstroke and manuel tranny. Its a four door with a long bed. Its one owner 140k original miles too. I will just be driving it to and from work and messing around my land on the occasional weekend I get off.

Im about to order a s&b cold air and a Diamond eye 4'' exhaust. Im not sure if im going to run strait pipes or get the one with the muffler. Im also confused on what setup to go with a programmer or a chip?

My dads duramax has the edge cts programmer and its getting great mpg and seems really quick. Now im not looking for a "race" truck, but I would like a little get up to it. Im mainly looking for decent mpg. I know I have read alot about getting a custom tune. Kinda get lost with all that, and I do like the all in one package of the cts. but I have heard some bad things about that as well.
Just wanna get some ideas on what setup to go with.

Search for DIY intake. 6637 filter.
Delete the muffler with factory exhaust. Or go 4" Turbo back
Search function for custom tunes. And gauges

Rigged? It flows awesomely and works well. It's very very very popular. For cfm comparison, you'd have to find data. But it works very well.

bweeks do some reading bud.

diamond eye or mbrp 4 inch straight pipe.
if you have a cat and live where you need to smog your truck obviously get cat back.
if you dont have a cat, do 4 inch turbo back. i have to smog my truck every 2 years and i pass every time with 4 inch turbo back. my truck obviously did not come with a cat.
my dad runs the 6637 intake and it flows great and filters extremely well.

i have the s&b intake.
if you have to smog your truck get the s&b, its smog legal. if not save yourself some money and just get the 6637 kit from riffraff.

and do not, i repeat do not get a programmer.

they are lame, seriously who wants 3 crappy generic tunes that take forever to switch between.

get a 6 pos chip from php, gearhead, no limit tuning, tony wildman.
or the hydra from php.
you will get way more power, and your truck will run smoother and cooler (egts) compared to a crappy generic programmer (edge, superchips, hypertech are generic programmers)

and gauges too, isspro or autometer.

or if you want fancy edge cts monitor

Edge has a good programmer but it doesn't have tunes on it just gauges. Rivercity deisel is a good website for sustom tunes because when you biy from them they give you 3 free customs tunes with your tuner

love newbe's who think they know it all. Programers better than custom tunes? Ya, right. Ride in trucks with either and see whick out performs.
Straight pipe illegal, offroad use only? Again, get out and get facts.

well you can dang well do anything you want to your truck then!

diy 6637 is a great cheap intake, 4 inch diamond eye straight pipe 230 from alligator performance.
php phoenix 6 position chip only 300 bucks for 6 custom tunes.

600 bucks for 100 extra hp. a dang good running truck, priceless

although a aftermarket is technically illegal in the great state of California, no one has ever has an issue with it.

Ok so Im gonna order the intake kit from riff raff and the diamond eye 4'' turbo back without the muffler. When looking at the php do I just pick what 6 tunes off their chart I want to be on the chip? Which do most you guys around here prefer?

im running

stock
60 tow

smokeshow (its a waste ive used it maybe 3 times)

high idle is a good one, maybe another tow tune instead of a race tune.
