2000 F350 Clanking Noise Will Not Start

Our '00 F350 7.3l diesel make a clanking noise and tries to turn over but doesnt......it all began by truck sitting for a period of several weeks in sub degree temps with very little fuel in tank....truck started and pulled out of drive only to begin bucking and sounding reallybad....parked and replaced fuel filter and added fuel and fuel additive....truck started and ran very ruff for several minutes and then leveled out after a period of running at idle.....then proceeded to station to complete fill up. Truck ran fine to and from station approx 5 miles round trip. Parked for the night. Next morning truck would turn over, but began a loud clanking noise and ran for a few seconds then turned off. that has been the story since, with the exception of having to recharge batteries. Would really appreciate any help as we can't get it to mechanic unless it runs....almost forgot, we tried OBD II, without any code return. Thanks again!!!!!

Clunking is possibly a piston ring that broke off. In these cold temps it is hard on an engine to start it in below freezing temps, and when you do you need to let it warm up before driving. I am guessing this is the culprit because of these engines being notorious for having weak pistons
