Just go to any auto parts store and ask for the upper rad hose for the dual alt set up. May want to call first to make sure they have it. Their computer will show the two different versions.

If you are going to follow my advice and switch to a true ELC coolant it is very important that you get all the old stuff out. Your method doesn't get out the coolant that is in the heater core. Plus you are using tap water and you never want tap water in the diesel!
Here is the easy but boring way.
Drain rad via the pet**** on the rad and a 5 gal bucket.
Fill with tap water from hose,
Drive truck until heat comes out of vents, of course heater on high, this circulates the heater core
Stop and drain through pet****, fill with tap water
Do this until water in the bucket is totally clear, took me 6 times.
Now you have nothing but 100% tap water in your system. You will need 20-24 gal of distilled water from the grocery store. Ask the manager most will give you a break on the price.
Instead of filling with tap water, fill with 4- 5 gal of distilled water
Drive until you have heat
stop and dump, refill with more distilled water
After doing this four times you will have nothing in the system but distilled water, on the last dump fill the degas bottle with 4 gallons of the concentrate ( not 50/50 mix) ELC coolant, and top off with distilled water. Watch the level over the next week until it burps the air out.
If you have any ? PM me

So you say getting the water pump that northern tool sells is just fine.
I would say you are happy with the stock WP that lasted so many miles, right? Well this is the same exact pump, made by the same exact company that made the one on your truck right now!! It was the only pump I wanted to use even though mine went out at 60K. It doesn't have a warranty, but I also don't want to be changing the water pump every other month. I always try and stay away from those places with "lifetime warranty" parts. In order to make any money they have to use the cheapest parts and methods in the rebuild or manufacture of that part. Give me a better quality part with no warranty any day. Of course a lot of this comes from experience.
Good Luck

Why do you not use regular tap water? My '97 just started a small drip, at 245K.

Get the International water pump. Cast iron housing and spin-on coolant filter, you can't go wrong. They have them at NAPA for $190.

I haven't seen this pump, not sure why IH would use a different one than Ford? Besides for the price difference I can buy the Airtex pump and still by a quality coolant filter kit from Dieselsite, or make my own and still be under $200.

Just to update everyone as I see this thread has come back from the grave!!! I have since learned that Carquest sells the Airtex pump for $120 and adds their lifetime warranty to it. The pump from Northern has gone up quite a bit, it is now $95 plus shipping, if this is true about Carquest I would get it through them and have the warranty. If you don't add a coolant filter you will be changing pumps every now and then.
