Fuel Water Separator (again)???

I know there are a lot of posts on this topic, but I was wondering something. Is it possible for the yellow drain lever O-rings on the fuel filter to leak a little or does it just pour out?

It got cold here (Evergreen, Colorado) last night 12 F were we live at 9400' The wifey and I went down to Home Depot, and on the way home we could smell some diesel in the cab. I got home and looked under the fuel bowl and could see, just a little puddle of Diesel on top of the motor. It was pretty gunked up around the fuel filter housing, so i couldnt see exactly were the fuel was leaking from.

Its $63 for the replacement kit from Ford, is the leak just gonna get worse or what?

Or, sice I just replaced the fuel filter recently, and it was the first cold night since...could it just be the O-ring on the filter cap???

Thanks!

just get the whole kit.

Replacement O-rings for Diesel Engines

As far as diesel in the valley, it *could* be the drain valve, but that usually leaks down below the engine.

You need to recheck the cap.

mine leaked long enough that I finally just gave up and paid Ford the ransom for the little valve... and spent a Saturday dropping the little screws, searching for them only to drop them again! But the leak is gone....

Thanks, I think I'll check the filter cap and O-ring, since that is the easiest thing to rule out, then probably just replace the valve.

Yeah make sure the bevel on the upper ring is going the right direction, and snug it down, use a mirror on a stick to see if you can visualize the leak. Good luck.

Yea, it was weird. I pulled it onto my buddies garage last night and we checked out the stuff in the Valley, and it seemed to be oil and not diesel. I thought that was strange. I ended up just putting in a new filter and O-ring and it seems OK.

What would be up with the oil puddling up in there???

It means your pedestal (turbo) or hpop lines are leaking. You need to clean out the oil and start looking for leaks.
