I am not that intrested in black smoke, as I would be with blue, white, grey. With your milliage i wouldnt be surpised if you had bad injector orings, mine went bad right about then and I had a huge drop in milliage, but it wasnt so quick

That is a gas motor part, we don't have the mass air flow/intake temp sensor

i said that because when the big cps recall was going on, some users on this or another forum said that the cps could cause bad mpgs due to incorrect timing or something else.

I am late on this one but it looks like CChase is leading you in the right direction. Change the FF, and see if things get better, also look for diesel fuel in the coolant, there will be a slime on the top of the degas bottle. BTW, you can replace just the O rings on the injectors, you don't have to buy new ones, although with that many miles I would at least have them rebuilt, but that's me!!

Wrong !!
The 7.3 does have a air intake sensor.
Maybe you want to check out this part #

MA-F6SZ12A697A

The sensor plugs into the back of the air filter box! Yes just leave it tied up out of the way, or you can drill a hole and mount it in the new intake.
