drove up to college station, guess my MPG

24.34 MPG. 2001 7.3. mods in sig. i kept cruise right at 60 the whole way and used a light to moderate foot. and i had maybe 10% of that driving was in austin and college station. the rest was all highway, 71 to 21 to fm60. pretty much straight shot.

sorry i just thought it was cool that i got the same mpg's as my old man's 04 525i

the 75 setting. yeah it got tough at times. i'm normally a 70mph person. at least. having semis and tour busses pass me on 21 east made my right foot itch bad. but it was worth it when all i had to fill up was 4 gallons and some change

although i didn't buy a truck for the gas mileage. but it is nice when people try to get all uppity with me about how i'm killing the environment, and it turns out i get almost the same mileage as their sedan

Sorry I have to call BS on this one!! Please don't take me wrong I am not saying you don't think you got almost 25 mpg, I am saying you didn't realy achieve this. Did you go off the readout on the overhead? If so you know a chip or program totally throws the reading off, don't you. There is a very popular member on another forum who has heavily modified a 2 wheel drive PSD, lowered, all the un needed weight removed, custom made 3:08 gears in the rear diff, and heavy aerodynamic mods, this thing is a shell and looks like a proto type of a space ship than a superduty truck!! He has been featured in many diesel mags for his achievements and to my knowledge he is right at 24 mpg, and if I do recall correctly it is the low 24's, so you see I how I have serious doubts that a stock PSD is going to blow his numbers away.
Glad you had a safe trip though.

Don't take me wrong Kevin, but I have to call BS on your response. Google maps indicates that it is 119 miles from the center of Austin to College Station. The writer also indicated that he used 4+ gallons. The math works out. Maybe he knows something about diesels and fuel economy that we don't? Don't know about you, but I am interested in knowing more about his setup.

no gimmicks, i filled up full in austin, reset the trip odometer and drove exactly 108.3 miles to the gas station i filled back up at in college station. at that station i filled up exactly 4.45 gallons of diesel. that works out to 24.33707865 miles/gallon. cruise at 60. diesel kleen with fillup. mods in sig. light foot. that's it really. overhead trip computer said 13.1 miles per gallon, i'd be pissed if that's what i got unloaded haha.

and just in my common sense ways i figured that when the engine is just idling and not revved high with the trans it doesn't suck up as much gas. on some of those long downgrades i tap the brake and unlock the TC. not sure if it does anything but the engine doesn't stay revved up so high?
