All 7.3 had them, they didn't become a option until 05 IIRC. She just doesn't know it or removed it for some reason!!
The Stancor unit runs around $45, I did a group buy a couple years ago and got a bunch from a fire engine company for $25 each.

Believe it or not, for whatever reason when I bought the excursion (used from Wisconsin), it had been removed. I knew that they came on the 7.3, as my dad had one without the cord and installed the cord himself. I went to the Ford dealer to have a cord installed since it can get cold in TX. Low and behold, no block heater.

It's strange how things happen. I just happened to ask about the Stancor unit yesterday morning just cause I was wondering. Well, later that morning when I went to start the truck up(I just switched my glow plugs back on for the colder weather), the indicator light I have for my GP's wasn't coming on. So I figured the fuse I had wired in line was out. Wouldn't start right away. Took quite a bit of cranking to get it turned over, and lots of white smoke when it did fire.
Well, I just now went out and checked the voltage across my relay....2 volts :{
I 'm going to troubleshoot it furthur tonight while i'm at work, cause it will be colder then, and I will be able to do more. But so far it looks like I will at least be replacing the GPR. I think I will be going with the Stancor unit.....

On a side note - weather has been crazy here the last couple of days....low 40's at night and mid 80's in the afternoon!?

i had 14 degrees this morning at the shop,man is it getting cold fast.and we have already got a foot of snow.the high today is about 35 degrees with the sun out.if glow plugs dont work up here your truck dont start and somtimes because of being at 10000 feet above sea level when it gets real cold i dont care if you have the best glow plugs in the world your truck wont start not plugged in.

Ahh. glow plugs... I'd like to change mine, as I was one of the lucky people to snag a set for 9 cents a few months ago... yup, remember the penny each at autozone deal? Tax took it to a wopping 9 cents total... my buddy who picked them up for me insisted that the salesman return all of his change from a quarter!
Back to topic..
As I have the glow plugs, and need to spend some time under the hood anyway, (cleaning the IC pipes and silicone boots) as well as remembering the hard starts of last winter, it makes sence to do it now. I'd also like to replace my batteries, and the bottom alternator.
My '99 work van w/PSD has no block heater cord... assumeing that it's there. Above the oil filter, right? I'll look closer one of these days, but the ol' van always starts easy. The SD, not so much... always needed the blockheater, and I like instant heat!
