open your fuel filter drian valve and crank the engine untill diesel pour out of it. then close it and crank over untill it starts. this will work better when hooked up to a charger.

remember only cranck for a maximum of twento seconds with a 2 minute coll down session in between crankings. thats will keep you from cooking your starter.

@ rankroddin250: I did open the fuel bowl valve earlier today and it had fuel pouring out (the engine was not cranking at the time though)
I'm just leaving the charger on all night and then trying again in the morning. Hopefully some better luck tomorrow!

Oh and a 2 minute cool off between trying to start? My starter may be on its way out after today

Based on what i just read from you guys, i would cycle through the glo plug warm up (getting the fuel pumps pumping right?) then if that stick doesnt work fill the fuel bowl with diesel.

I asked a guy at the ford dealership and he said that all the trucks (im assuming he meant he 99-early 03 rangs) have problems with the sending units. I know my buddies 99 F250 with the gasser v8 has the same issues with the sending unit.

It would be awesome if somebody on here could come up with a fix for it!!

that could be it. with the bad cps will the truck run at all after it dies the first time? or is it different on different trucks?

couldnt hurt to try, pretty simple swap.

You need to have about 10-12 gallons in the tank first.
Open the fuel bowl drain and place a catch can under the truck.
turn the key on and listen for the pump to run.
It will run for about 10 seconds and then shut off.
Keep cycling the key until fuel comes out of the drain.
Watch close because once it starts to come out , a lot comes out.
close the drain and the crank the engine.
You need strong batteries for this.
Don't crank any longer than 10 seconds at a time or you will over heat the cables.
If you have someone there to hook up jumper cables, leave them attached during cranking.
It should start after about 5 or 6 10 sec cycles.

Now you could have picked up junk from the bottom of the tank and cooked the lift pump and clogged your filter.

Ive used either on my truck before, you have to be very carefull, which is why its not recomended, but it runs smoother on either then diesel.

I wouldnt recomend it tho, but make sure you change filters, put atlest 4-5 gallons in the tank, and see if your tach moves when your cranking, if not cps. But its going to take alot of cranking.

Well I FINALLY got it fired up this morning. Took a few cranks but it went after having the charger on the battery all night (plus some help from the jump setting when I was starting it).

I definitely don't want to go through this again! So what would be the problem thats throwing off the gauge?

Thanks everyone for your ideas/input! This is my only transportation (other than my street legal dirt bike) so I was really starting to stress!

Mark
