cps recall

so i am kinda confused, and none of my buddies are exactly sure either. i've read people on here saying it's $30 bucks at the dealership, but do you have to take it to the dealership? how much would it be if i bought the new one and did it myself?

Ya its free and only takes about 30 mins of waiting at the dealer and if you are lucky they will wash it for free.

Shouldnt cost you a dime. My recall paper states that the dealership is to inspect and replace if not already replaced with the updated cps at no charge. I think you are reading about people who bough their own and did it themselves

They are 30 bucks if you go in and just buy one for a spare or something. Just picked one up and thats what it ran me.

Recall on CPS

Forgive my ignorance, but what is this thread all about? Is there some sort of recall on faulty cps units? I bought a couple over the net last year thinking I could have to change one some time, and yes I did have a fault which I thought would indicate a change......having endless problems with fault codes coming up and losing all power etc and the Ford yard can't find the problem. Can some one tell me if the cps units are being recalled from last year's batch too?
Cheers, Jan O

pretty much any cps unit should be recalled. unless you have already had it done. who knows when they were manufactured coming over the web.

Since you are new to the ORG. I won't say "Where have you been!!!" LOL, but welcome and yes there is a CPS recall. Ford has been ripping us off for years on these CPS's selling them for $160+ , so now they have the "new wheel" and set up this recall to make everything okay with the 7.3 owners!! The new CPS's are obviously made from another supplier for them to be selling for 1/8th cost, and I believe the quality is much lower as well, as CPS's failures seem to be on the rise with the new ones. Many are still selling the old ones on Ebay for $50 and they are worth it to me. I have one of each in my glove box and I recommend everyone having a spare with them, and if you are using the new and improved version I would have two!!! If your dealer is cool you can bring the truck in, they will run the VIN and if it hasn't been issued already, they will just hand you a new CPS. Why change a sensor that is working? I would like to have some of the older ones all these Ford places are throwing in the trash!! I 'd take them over the new crappy ones they are selling now!! Just my opinion. BTW I have personal knowledge of 3 of the new CPS's bad out of the package!!

NCH

man these new cps's sound like one big headache! i'm just gonna keep the one i got, and run it until she blows. do they sell the old one at say auto parts stores? or have they all upgraded to selling the new crappy one? it's funny cause fox era mustangs have a problem with ignition moduals. a lot of them go out on those cars like the cps does on these trucks. and they leave you stranded until they cool down. all of my friends who have owned mustangs around the same year had to replace their ignition moduals at fairly low mileage. i had 148k and 15 years on the original one, and i was always afraid it was gonna go out, so i bought one, and put it in the glove compartment. when it finally did die i was stuck on the side of the road without any tools stupid i know. i had to have my best friend drive my truck up to meet me cause i have all the tools on the truck. from what i've read on here, and in diesel world, and all that they seem like they leave people stranded.
