Anybody Have A Turbo Timer?

Hey guys,

I'm getting pretty tired of sitting in my truck and watching the EGT gauge come down SLOWLY to around 300* so I can shut her down. I was wondering if anyone is running a turbo timer. I found a good site with great prices on mostly import brands(ie. Apex'i, Greddy, HKS) and was wondering what people were using on the ORG and if one brand is preffered or recommended.

Thanks in Advance,
Mark

Yep, I have for years. There are mainly two different types. One reads the temp off your pyrometer and the other is a timer based device. I wanted the Isspro TT but they have interface issues with some 2000-2001 vehicles where the Key Fob doesn't work. There is no way to tell which ones will be affected!! Not a chance I wanted to take. I ended up doing my research and decided on a Brite Box Turbo Lifesaver. I feel this is the very best TT on the market!! I can set the timer for extended run times out to 150 min. Since I take my Bassett Hound with me wherever I go this feature comes in handy in the summer when I have to run into the store. I can leave her in the truck with the AC on!! It also has a micro kill switch that I use when I go down to the city, very nice to have!! It also has a feature to prevent dry starts after a oil change. Sure I could of bought an alarm with a TT for what I spent on the BB unit alone, but I have a few friends who have the TT in a alarm and they don't work right at all!! I have never had a problem with my BB unit. The majority of time 1 min is enough time to drop the temps to 325 or lower.
Some say coking isn't a real problem anymore, but under the right conditions it is, and I have seen the sand like material that comes from it.

A reply from down under. We use a timer localy made by Bogaard electronics. I have one fitted to my 250, these units are able to be intergrated with the alarm systems in fords, with the feature that they will go into full alarm & shut down your truck if someone touches it while it is timing down.can be set from 30sec to 5 minutes.
The Quality of these units is top notch, that Kenworth,Western Star, Frieghtliner trucks have them as standard here.
They are priced at about $200 Australian With current exchange rates approx $160 US

website that possibly help you
Bogaard Distributors
cheers

I also forgot to mention the BB now has a interface so you can use the CC buttons to set it. I need to order this for my truck!! The BB has the same kill feature if anyone hits the brake pedal ( which you need to do to put in gear) the truck will jut die and won't restart. JFYI

I never got one, cuz I didn't know if it would affect my alarm working. I need one on my new truck, anyone know how that would work. I figured it either would set the alarm off when it finally shut down, or the alarm wouldn't let itself activate with the motor running

Most quality alarms have a delay setting that can be set to activate the alarm after a set amount of time. Also many good alarms have TT that can be added to their system, you may want to check this out.

How these type of system works, is they arm all doors, hood, movement & interior sensors but not the engine system till TT shuts down engine. But if some one say smashes glass to get in, or opens a door, they instantly shut the engine down as one of the circuits has been activated then go into full alarm mode.
Most quality alarm system support this type of operation including stock ford one

You are only speaking about alarm systems right? Because it sounds like you are saying the above is how TT work and it isn't true. The TT alone will monitor the brake pedal which has to depressed
to start the engine. If the brake pedal is hit prior to shutdown the truck will shut off and not restart without the key!!

No not just talking alarm system. talking about what a alarm can do when set up properly with a turbo timer, in other words no one can gain entry into your truck without setting the alarm off, let alone put their foot on the brake pedal. Because the second they touch or open something to gain entry ,alarm goes mental & shuts the engine down instantly, not waiting for some idiot to touch the brake pedal.
