Auto VS Manual

Just seeing what you guys think or have seen. I would think an auto would be faster than a manual, due to having to shift the manual. The reason I ask is my friend and I have basically the same truck, both early 99's, his is manual mine is auto. Pretty much same mods, he actually has a hypermax chip and I have custom tunes. So I figured with my auto and custom tunes I would beat him, but from a roll he pulls away from me, and from a stop not launching I barely get ahead of him and he begins to pull on me. I guess I have more power loss through the auto than he does through the manual. Kinda wondering also because he bought his truck with everything and doesn't know if it maybe has other stuff done to it. So what do you guys think?

You should be able to beat him pretty easy with custom tunes and an auto. Maybe he does have more done???

An auto is always faster, but you have other factors as well, reaction times, traction, etc.... Could be your TC is slipping so you aren't getting the power to the ground?

I kinda always thought auto was faster. As for traction I would assume we were pretty equal, same tires good pavement, but it was just on the street so who knows. I've always wondered about my trans, the guy I bought it from said it was "built up" but who knows what that means. Wouldn't there be other indications that I might notice if my TC was slipping? I really don't know. I have never had problems with an auto trans to use as a reference?

+1 for an auto. I'll take my 4r100 over any ZF.

How to tell if the TC is slipping?
Hook to a heavy trailer, that is one sure way!! lol!!
It is usually easier to tell with a load on the truck, unless it is slipping bad, but when the TC is locked the rpm's will rise equal to the speedometer, if the rpm's raise up faster it means the TC is slipping and should be building some heat on the trans temp gauge!!
