Dieselsite.com had them for around $65 IIRC but I could be wrong. I will send you the info on the CCV Mod now.

driveshaft u-joint servicing may be fundamental but should be mentioned, as with ball joints and tie rod ends.

one thing i'm surprised no one has mentioned was get the cps recall taken care of if you haven't already. these things fail a lot, and they often can leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. i just got back from a road trip from jersey to california. it was the only thing i was worried about reliability wise. i should have had it taken care of. i am going back again next month, and i plan to have it done before then.

If replacing parts that are working just fine makes you feel better have at it!! I reckon you haven't heard how Crappy these new CPS's are that Ford is now using!! Just because you have it replaced doesn't mean it will last any longer than the one that was in there, actually my bet is it won't. The recall wasn't because of a bad CPS, it is Ford bending over because they over charged folks for many, many years are these stupid sensors!!
When replying to a thread like this I tend to assume that all 7.3 owners have read about the CPS problems and carry a spare with them as well as the tools to change one on the side of the road, 10mm socket, 3" extension, ratchet and a flat blade scewdriver, but I reckon I shouldn't assume this. A spare CPS was the very first thing I bought when I bought my truck!!

so basically it's the same old sensor that they've always had the problems with? does anyone else manufacture them? or is it just a ford item?

No the new ones are junk!!! They are going out way more often than the old ones did and we all know how often they went out. If you are using the new ones I actually recommend carrying two of them as I have seen several bad right out of the bag. $16 each vs the $189 they use to charge is a big savings, just means you may have to change them more aften. There are still some of the older ones sold on Ebay for around $50. Choice is yours.

Carry an extra 10 gal Diesel in your bed. Nothing worse then seeing that fuel guage light come on and no where to be seen is a diesel station. Just a bit of comfort I have learned. That extra 10 gallons will get you an extra 100 miles in a pinch.
