Newbie here........

Looking for a used diesel to pull my race car. I'm a total 'tard when it comes to the world of diesels. I've narrowed my search down to the 7.3L's and was wondering if anyone could give me a brief overview of any of the advantages for the model years. I assume newer models are better? Can anyone please list the power ratings per year? Believe it or not, I haven't been able to find that info.

Somone else will have to answer your questions....i drive a 6.0 and know little about the 7.3s

2003 6.0 F350 dually on high cholesterol fuel (WVO)
2000 7.3 Excursion also on a high cholesterol fuel

if you can find one for sale, 2003 7.3l. most power and has all the latest parts. No recalls or updates on the engine that i know of. don't know the rated HP but the torque was around 525 ft lbs. so said the sticker in the back window. I'm sure this rated at the engine not the tires.

99.5 F-250 PSD AT 4x4, 4in lift, 37 13.5 18 Pro comp Extreme A/T's, S&B Intake, GTP38R, DP Tuner custom programs (140 Agg., 120 sled pull, 80 tow and 60 tow), Rosewood DIY stage 2 injectors, BTS Trans, 5in exhaust no muffler, 6 oh intercooler, Ford AIC, EBPV delete, Foil delete, T/C lock up mod, Pusher Fuel Pump, Three Chime train Horns

Welcome Mike, the 7.3 is a great package.
They started with 215 hp in '94, went to 225 hp in '97 (Maybe '96), 275 in '03.
Look on the valve cover to see the factory rating.

Thank you everyone for the great welcome. 'Bout makes me want to rush out and buy the truck so I can feel like a part of this group. I'm planning on buying this spring when the towing season begins. I do see a lot of '03's for sale and some less expensive than the 01's-02's. I assume this is possibly because of the warranted or unwarranted reputation of the 6.0L's first year blues? Looking for a F350 crew cab 2WD. Not sure I have a preference whether it be an automatic or manual. I guess the auto would be a little easier in tight manuvering situations but, pulling the car 200 miles to some races might justify possibly better gas mileage with a manual if that's the case?
