I was running mine with the pipe ending right after the cab (cause I pulled off the muffler) and I liked the sound of the straight pipe, but the rest of the clan did not like it and we were only running empty, start pulling something and it would get even louder! I was out voted....

I have not put a hanger on the BTM yet. I was going to cut one off the old muffler and then have my budy weld it on. Have not seen him in a while. Its not too big of a deal since its pretty solid down there and there are 3 or 4 hangers in front of the muffler and 1 behind it. its solid.

First part of test is a visual, no muffler, you fail. I hope all those who removed their CAT's saved them!!

I can hear mine with the window down when I am light on the throttle. but when I take off hard I dont hear it unless there is some thing next to me to reflect the sound (truck, fence, building...) but even with the windows up, hit 3k rpm and full boost, sounds like a jet engine back there! (but not too bad) then roll the windows down, hit 3k next to a fence or something else, and wow it sounds crazy! its hard to get a vid of that since usually at 3k rpm there is way too much wind noise and it kills the vid....

Walker

I went ahead and put the Walker muffler on this morning. Slightly lower exhaust note at idle. There is a slight drone in the cab with windows up between 1500-1700 rpm -not bad.

I ended up using a 5" O.D. stainless tip for the 3.5" stock exhaust. Looks pretty good.

Thanks for the responses!

I have not noticed any drone with the windows up. do you have a short cab and a short bed maybe? maybe you are closer to the tail pipe then I am?

I have 4x4 4-door dually long bed. The drone I hear is very slight at those rpm's. Not a problem for me as it is so slight. To me, this still qualifies as a "quiet" exhaust mod. I do play more with custom super charged/big inch V-twin motorcycles, so this thing still purs like a kitten! LOL

Thought I would add that we welded hangars to the weld joints on the Walker - front and back to minimize any stress.

Q:I have an early 99,is the down pipe 2.5.Is that stock?
Did you remove the cat?
What is the stock pipe 2-3" all the way to the tail?

%:If I need to go 3.5 from the turbo to the tail,i'll be replacing the whole system. Is their a savings this way or going to a 4" system?

Thanks, ultra flow mufflers sounds good.

I dont know much about the early 99s. on mine (late 99 to 03) its 3.5 inches all the way back (including the DP) the 2.5 inches is the exhaust housing. I am not sure on the 2.5 inches, but I know its less then the DP size. If strokin early does not chime in, I would PM him, he knows alot about the early 99s.

There wasn't a change is exhaust size from 99-99.5, I believe the down pipe is 3" and the exhaust 3.5"

I agree, there is a bump up to 3.5" pipe right near the transmission on my 2000. Appears to be 3" to the turbo.

you dont need an insanely big dp unless your runnin 500-600+ hp but the upgrade from a 3.5 inch system to a 4 inch system IS alot better trust me egts will drop even more, sound will be even deeper and better. mainly cus the bump in diameter, and mainly bc of all the sharp bends in the factory exhaust. just look at a pic of a 4'' aftermarket system on the ground next to a removed factory system. remember im talking about the system not the dp. 3-3.5'' dp is more than enough for most of us
