Talking 2000 F-250 straight pipe question- new to PS

Hey all! So I have been lurking for awhile and finally decided to post. I love what I see here so far! I just got a powerstroke and while not new to diesel I am new to powerstrokes. I have a zoodad mod, running a flashpaq by superchips with the perf tow tune and I want to open up the exhaust. I keep getting estimates of 80+ bucks to put in a straight pipe around here and I know I can do it myself buying good clamps and all for less than that. I don't want to do the flex pipe option, I'd rather use solid pipe. How can I do this? I have seen muffler delete pipes online but I seem to remember reading that you can take the clamp off that is just in front of the muffler and after cutting the muffler off turn the pipe so it bends upward, tighten the clamp back down and you can use a straight piece of pipe between the cutoff tailpipe and the rest of the exhaust. Does anyone know if this works, does it work well? If not, what suggestions do you have? Lastly, is it going to create a drone in my cab? It's a crew cab long bed. I want it louder outside and breathe better, but I don't want it really loud in the cab. Eventually I will put full magnaflow 4" on it with a 3 1/2 down pipe. I got 18.2 mpg hand calc my first full tank with the superchips, using the A/C and having some fun. Love it! Is this average?
Thanks in advance!

Rotating the S pipe is the way to do it. You can do it yourself and then have a muffler shop weld it up, I don't like clamps!! Another suggestion is using the Walker BTM, unlike the stock muffler that necks down to 2.5" and causes a huge restriction. The BTM is a straight shot 3.5" so all backpressure is gone. There is coming a day, sooner than y'all think, where diesels will have to go through emssions testing in all states. The first part of the test is a visual, when they don't see a muffler you fail. I have done trucks both ways, straight pipe and BTM, and I see no difference in EGT's. The straight pipe is a bit louder. I paid $40 for the BTM and then paid $50 to have it installed after I showed them how to do it, the BTM is HUGE!!! I did the BTM and AIS intake at the same time and between the two my EGT's dropped 100-150 degrees. Add the muffler now or later it's your choice.
Good Luck
NCH
PS, I hope all those who have ripped their CAT's off had the sense to save them!! Mine didn't come with one so I am good to go!!

Thanks for the input! I had it done, it looks and sounds great. I had a local muffler shop do it for $65.00 nicely welded and properly hung using the stock hanger spots. No difference in the cab at all with windows up, thats for sure! I like the way it sounds, and there is no in cab drone at any speed or load that I have discovered. There are times when I wish it was quieter, like at about 1600 rpm, 25 mph going up a hill... it really barks at that point!

ScottyP5947: did you install the straight pipe or the Walker?

When you say you wish it quieter at 1600 rpm...is that with the windows open or closed?

My local muffler shop only has 3" pipe...NOT 3.5". Spoke to them today and they told me "no real difference downsizing to a 3" in that section". Not real sure if it will make that much difference to go smaller as I will only be using a DP Tuner and open intake. No real heavy hauling needs for me.

Oh purely with the window down, with it up it amazes me that you really can't hear any difference at any speed. I had a 3 1/2 inch pipe put in, no BTM for me. As for the local muffler shop that only has 3" pipe, they are right that it won't make a super huge difference but it could make it sound different and it will effect flow somewhat. IMO, it would be silly to have them put 3" in there, if I were you I would hold out and find a shop that has the bigger stuff. My wife drives the truck more than I do, it's our family 'dog-mobile' and she has no issues with the way it sounds at all. Best of luck!

Do you hear the whir of the turbo more now from the exhaust pipe? Some trucks I have heard sounded like a blow drier or jet engine sound from their exhaust outlet?

MM: Yup, that's the awesome sound and main reason drive with my pass window down most of the time, just to hear it! Straight pipe is the way to go... I'm gonna do my work van next... see if the ol' man notices!

Yeah it does! I have had the wife run past me on the road to hear it, taken video of it, I leave the passenger window down so I can hear it. That just so happens to be where my 2 year old sits too, she likes the new sound as well. It makes a very well heard flutter when running and when you get on it, it gets loud outside of the truck but most def recommended!
