Overboost

Is there a way to cut the boost at a certain PSI? I'm overboosting quite a bit and I don't know if it's due to the fact that I now need a wicked wheel to hopefully cure my surge or what.

Put it this way. The truck won't go over 2g on the tack when going up hill with a load do to the boost.

Any thoughts would be great

What are your boost numbers? How do you know your overboosting?

ITP overboost regulator will stop any defuel issues you may be having, but nothing should be keeping you under 2k...

i dont think he is talking bout overboost as much as surge. i had the same problem pulling the 4 horse loaded up hills-surging like crazy. wicked wheel will help.

I had it on cruise control and we were going up a hill and the cruise shuts off. Feels like the engine is trying and the boost goes up to 25psi and then cruise goes off.

When the cruise is not on and I keep the boost at say 20psi it will pull like crazy.

I'm sorry, I confused you.

I can get over 2k fine when slowly accelerating and keeping the boost low say 3/4 throttle. When the cruise is on goes to something like WOT up a hill to maintain speed it shuts down because of the super hight boost . .. in other words it shuts down before 2k because of the turbo spinning like crazy before 2k

So does anyone know how to make a presure sensor to the map line? I would like to limit my boost at say 20lbs to cure the problem of the surge until I get my wicked wheel and then move it up to 27lbs or so after to keep the light from coming on when I overboost

I hear $20 in parts from Loews but I don't know what to buy or how to hook it up

Lowering boost will not stop surge, only increase egt's. Change the rpm your driving at and your surge will go away. You can make a stock turbo surge at 10 psi or you can make it surge at 30 psi, it has more to do with rpm's...

You can not control boost the way you are thinking anyway. The map regulator from ITP (or DIY) is going to control how much boost the MAP sensor see's, not what is produced. anything over 20-22 and the PCM will defuel to control boost (that is how you control boost, by backing off the fuel.)

I understand compressor surge. In my turbo cars I had a boost controller that I could install and tune a specific boost. Thought it might be possible with this engine. I guess it's no go on the cruise until I switch wheels.

Send a message via AIM to cchase
a whicked wheel will NOT cure surging. you would need a bigger housing.
