Missfire cylinder 8, all injectors passed buzz test, cylinder 8 contribution test fail. Basically is what the dealer told me with out looking at the paper work I got from them today. They wanted another 500 dollars to remove valve cover, ohm test the harness to the IDM, then do a compression test. Well I have a multi meter so I can do the ohm test myself, and I have the compression tester for a diesel to go through the glowplug hole. So I can do that myself. I just don't have the equipment to do the buzz test and contribution test. At least not yet.
So after talking to Scuffy earlier about this. I took his advice went and got my truck. Being I have the equipment and ability and know how to do what they wanted to do. I can do all that myself. I am getting hooked up with the injector ( family member has a 7.3L as well). So I will replace the injector and o-rings for that one injector. I will do the ohm test and compression test after the new to me injector does not fix the miss.
But I talked to numerous people about this. They all basically aggree with me get an injector that I know is good. Put it in and see if the problem is resolved.
To me 500 dollars to remove the valve cover, do the ohm testing to the wiring harness, and then a compression test just seems a little high. I mean ok 30 minutes to remove the valve cover, 30 minutes doing the ohm test, then say 30 minutes to do the compression test. No parts needed, just labor time. That seems kinda expensive when one brand new injector is 225.00 at another local dealer.
What makes more sense, take the gamble of 225 dollars on an injector if I had to buy one. Or pay 500 dollars to be told that yep your injector is no good. Even though the contribution test kinda already told me that.
