Coolant question

This isn't exactly the right site for this question but this site seems to get the most traffic. My uncle has a 94' IDI with the factory turbo that is badly in need of a coolant change. It has the original coolant, but the truck only has 55,000 miles on it. He is at Walmart right now and they have this diesel coolant called Final Charge Global. Is anyone familiar with this coolant? I'm trying to find out if this stuff is good for his truck. This stuff sounds good with an advertised 600,000 mile change interval and you don't need any additives. Any help would by appreciated. Would this stuff be good for my 99.5?

Can't say for sure but I do know you need to be careful. My 2001 uses the "old" green stuff with an additive for cavitation. I have been told to NOT use the gold stuff. Some on here have. I have read a very complicated flush technique you can do before you switch over from gold to green. I'd stick with what the factory used which I'm sure would be the green stuff. Just my $0.02. Take it for that.

Any of the typ green coolant will be fine in a early 99 and older PSD, for the late 99 and newer the Gold can be used if a good flush is done, not hard just boring, but the Gold lacks min cavitation requirements right out of the jug. There are much better coolants to be used. The Fleetrite ELC and Rotella ELC ( SAME product different packaging) are excellent choices, good for 300K and up to 600K if a extender is used at 300K. It is what the OTR trucks use.

I agree. The gold stuff is supposed to be universal, but isn't it geared more toward GM's Dex-cool? Kinda like if you owned a GM with Dex-cool & wanted to convert to green anti-freeze, you have to do what you said & flush it really good & then fill with green. If you don't, & the Dex-cool mixes with green(or even just straight water), the Dex-cool turns into liquid rust.

The only difference between green coolants is either straight-up anti-freeze, or premix(50/50). It'll tell ya right on the jug.OH! & just make sure if you DO get straight & mix it w/ water, to try to get as close to a 1:1 as you can(gives best protection!) & just test it after a really good ride with a coolant hydrometer.

Does the ELC come with the anti cav or do you still need the ford add?

It is in it, the TRUE ELC is maintenance free for 300K although I won't keep any fluids in my truck for that long!! ELC like Fleetrite is hands down the very best coolant for a modern diesel engine, and the PSD from late 99 on up.
